* These can be close or distant relatives. We use statistics and population studies to estimate the degree of family relationship. GENA perform Y-chromosome tests for male lineage testing.

Sample

Our tests are based on saliva samples, a blood test is not necessary. Epithelial cells from the mouth cavity are sampled with a swab, and the cells are transferred to a filter paper card (“FTA card”) and the card is returned to our laboratory by regular mail. The test kit, instructions and a pre-paid return envelope is included in the price.

Report

Paternity and twin tests are determined with 99.99% accuracy. The DNA results are always presented in our reports.

Time

The report is ready 5 to 10 working days from receiving the samples.

We offer forensic DNA analysis to public and private customers. GENA is an independent accredited forensic DNA laboratory established near the University of Stavanger.

GENA is used regularly in Norwegian courts and by both the prosecution and the defence sides as independent DNA experts for interpretation of forensic DNA evidence.
